    Aesthetic eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes are the mirror of the soul and a person’s gaze is central to the expression of her beauty and of who she is. Unfortunately, skin loses its tone over the years, namely at the level of the eyelids. As a result, the following appear: wrinkles, dark circles and bags under the eyes, a tired and aged appearance. Aesthetic surgery of the eyelids (called blepharoplasty) allows to correct these problems. This surgery is performed frequently for men and women.

What is the surgery called ‘’blepharoplasty’’?

Blepharoplasty is the cosmetic surgery of the upper or lower eyelids that improves the appearance of the eyelids and corrects the signs of aging. The operation improves the appearance of heavy and droopy eyelids that are weighed down by excess skin and fat bulges. In some people, certain undesirable features of the eyelids have been present since childhood. An aesthetic blepharoplasty yields a more harmonious and refreshed look. Here are the different types of blepharoplasty:

    Upper blepharoplasty

An upper blepharoplasty is generally performed for heavy upper eyelids that have excess skin and/or bulging of fat. The surgery is performed by an incision which will be mostly hidden in the eyelid skin fold and the scar is generally subtle.

    Lower blepharoplasty

A lower blepharoplasty is generally performed to correct the ‘’bags under the eyes’’ that are caused by a loosening of the skin and bulging of the fat around the eyes. Depending on each client’s individual needs, the surgery can be performed through a subtle incision under the eyelashes that makes it possible to tighten the skin, or an incision inside the eyelid that does not leave a visible external scar.

What can I expect after the surgery?

Results are usually satisfying shortly after the surgery but healing is even better starting 8+ weeks after the surgery. Clients and their loved ones appreciate the more refreshed and rested look that the surgery yields. It is recommended to follow good skincare practices, which include not smoking, avoiding prolonged sun exposure and having a good skincare routine which includes applying a serum/cream for hydration and sunscreen daily.
