    Fillers

Dermal fillers can help restore more glow and volume to your face.

Over the years, sun damage and gravity have undesirable effects on one’s skin. Skin progressively loses collagen, which causes the face to deflate a bit like a balloon would and it causes ‘sags and bags’ to appear. ‘Bags’ appear under the eyes and deeper wrinkles form around the nose and the mouth. Also, cheeks look deflated and sag down from their youthful position, and heavy folds of loose skin can appear on the jaw and cause ‘jowls’.

    Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to improve these previously mentioned changes linked to aging. They can also be used in younger patients to accentuate certain facial features, like plumping up the lips. Fillers are generally composed of hyaluronic acid, a gel that integrates to your skin and helps to restore its lost volume. Fillers can fill zones of the face that need more volume and harmonize facial contours. The objective is to make you look your best and younger, while maintaining a natural look.

    What are fillers?

Fillers are gels that are designed to restore or bonify the face’s volume. They are generally constituted of hyaluronic acid, a molecule that integrates well to the skin.

How long does the fillers treatment last?

Depending on the number of zones to treat, the treatment generally lasts about 10 to 30 minutes.

    Is the treatment painful?

Most people don’t find that the fillers treatment is painful. They generally describe a mild discomfort. That being said, pain is a subjective experience and everyone is different in that regard. The freezing solution (lidocaine) in the fillers numbs the treated area to minimize the discomfort.

How is the fillers treatment performed?

The fillers are injected under the skin with a very fine needle.

Which parts of the face can be treated with fillers?

The volume of the cheeks and lips can be increased. The jaw line and other facial contours can also be optimized. Deep wrinkles around the nose, lips, mouth and elsewhere on the face can be attenuated with fillers.

How long does the effect of fillers last?

The effect generally lasts 6 to 12 months. It is generally recommended to do a touch-up treatment every 9 to 18 months to maintain the full desired effect.

Are there possible side effects to fillers treatment?

Most of the time, there is no significant side effect after a fillers treatment except possibly from some mild swelling and redness of the treated zone. Possible side effects include: swelling, redness, bruising, itchiness, discoloration or sensitivity of treated zone. If a side effect occurs, most of the time it resolves within a week.

What should be done after treatment?

It is recommended to avoid participating in vigorous sports for 12 to 24 hours after treatment. As long as treated zones are swollen or reddish, extreme hot or cold temperatures should be avoided (eg. sauna or ice bath). The risk of infection is small and it can be further decreased through good hand hygiene and by not touching the treated area for 24 to 48 hours.
